AI & Coding Explorers

About this programme

Programme overview

AI & Coding Explorers is an engaging, project-based program designed for middle school learners aged 11–13 who are curious about technology, creativity, coding, and artificial intelligence. This beginner-friendly course introduces students to the world of programming through hands-on activities, interactive projects, and real-world AI experiences. No prior coding experience is required, making it an ideal starting point for young learners who want to explore how technology works and how software is created.

Throughout the course, learners develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills while exploring programming concepts through Scratch and Python. Students begin by understanding how computers follow instructions, create algorithms, and solve problems step by step. They then build interactive stories and games using Scratch before transitioning to Python programming, where they create simple applications and strengthen their logical thinking skills.

As the course progresses, learners explore the fascinating world of artificial intelligence. They investigate how AI systems work, examine real-world examples of AI, and learn about important topics such as fairness, bias, and responsible AI use. Through creative projects, students experiment with AI-powered tools to generate stories, posters, presentations, and other digital creations while developing critical thinking skills about how AI should be used effectively and responsibly.

The program emphasizes learning by building. Throughout the 12-week journey, students complete a variety of practical projects including interactive Scratch stories, playable mini-games, Python programs, AI investigations, AI-assisted creative projects, chatbots, and simple machine learning models. Each project helps learners apply newly acquired skills in meaningful and creative ways while building confidence in their abilities as young creators and problem solvers.

The course concludes with a capstone project and showcase presentation where learners combine their knowledge and creativity to develop a final project of their choice. Students then present their work, reflect on their learning journey, and celebrate their achievements with family members, instructors, and peers. This final experience helps learners develop communication skills, confidence, and pride in the projects they have created throughout the program.

By the end of the course, learners will have gained a strong foundation in coding, computational thinking, and artificial intelligence concepts. They will understand how technology is built, how AI can be used responsibly, and how to turn ideas into working digital projects. Most importantly, they will leave the program with a portfolio of creative work, practical technical skills, and the confidence to continue exploring the exciting world of technology and innovation.
